Excellent City and Falls Tour!

Wonderful tour of Seattle and Snoqualmie Falls! Tracie was an excellent guide, with informative comments throughout our travels. Pick-up at our downtown hotel was easy, and I liked the photo-learning aspect of the tour. The tips and pointers made my vacation pictures much better. Was a nice, comfortable ride to the falls with some beautiful scenery and commentary - we learned a lot! Truly enjoyed the time at the Locks and the Falls, and thought the stop at Kerry Park was breathtaking!.... I appreciated Tracie's tips for getting the most out of each stop. Thanks Tracie for an enjoyable tour!

Absolutely First Class.”

My wife and I have just returned from our Shutter Tours tour of the Falls and the City. As first time visitors to Seattle we hoped this tour would give us an oversight of the city - it way exceeded our expectations - it was absolutely first class. Terry is an excellent tour guide and plainly very proud of his home city. His knowledge is remarkable and he is a natural communicator and story teller. And he is certainly NOT sticking to a well rehearsed patter. It was a real pleasure to spend 4 hours in his company. Highly recommended.

Best City Tour Ever!

This was our 1st trip to Seattle and I went to TripAdvisor for a recommendation and Shutter Tours was the best! Terry our guide was born and raised in Seattle and he knew the in and outs of the city. The tour was much more than we expected and the places we visited were awesome. The best value for our money of any tour that we have taken. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. Terry also gave us valuable tips on taking the best photos and offered to take our picture at each stop. He also took the time to give dinner recommendations and suggested other tours to see even more of this great city.

Dedicated to the customer experience

I've visited the Seattle area many times, but this was my first professional tour. Terry and his operation, Shutter Tours, are truly top notch. I appreciate that they are a 'quality over quantity' tour operator, and their simple photography tips are a fantastic bonus that I will take with me into future adventures. Having grown up in Seattle, Terry and his team know not just about the expected landmarks but can unveil the stories hidden in the global businesses, the bands, the art, and the residents of this city. In addition to the beautiful Snoqualmie Falls, get a glimpse of The House That Spite Built, Jimi Hendrix's childhood neighborhood, free samples at the amazing Theo Chocolate Shop (do try the ghost chile chocolate), and glorious Herons nesting at the locks. If Terry is your guide, be sure to ask him what he knows about the mayor of Seattle. Do you know how Nordstrom was founded? You will after this tour. It's fascinating. Tours without stories, you are better off driving around yourself. Shutter Tours in my opinion is the quintessential story-telling adventure. As adventures should be. And now they are doing tours to Tanzania?! Sign me up. Professional, creative, and quite fun. Clearly a tour company that is dedicated to the customer experience.

Worth every penny

I took the Snoqualmie Falls and City tour by myself which sometimes isn't as fun as going with a group. In the case of this tour you don't need a group to have fun. Terry is engaging and knowledge about locations If you are a photographer he provides helpful tips that ensure you don't miss an opportunity.

The tour takes a nice deal of time and you get to drive all around the area. I had not imagined ever seeing Kurt Cobain's house or the neighborhood Jimi Hendrix grew up in, but this tour covered that. Terry has lot of music trivia and fun facts that peeked my interest.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention we stopped at Theo Chocolate. They offer free samples and I am pretty sure I owe my afternoon sugar high and energy to that place. It was nice to see the factory where they make the chocolate.

The tour also takes you by the Fremont Troll and you have to get your photo taken there. I think it a rule of Seattle.

The Ballard Locks was beautiful and it was cool to watch the salmon swim up the locks. The pictureque view made for great photos.

I would take this tour again simply because there was so much information and things I could have focused on a bit more. There wasn't a part of the City I don't think I missed on this tour.

The hotel pick up was a great addition and the drop off points were convenient. I've taken tours before in other cities and I really think this was one of the best I've been on.

Terrific Seattle Tour

A friend and I recently visited Seattle and chose Shutter Tours based on customer reviews and we were not disappointed. We were picked-up at our hotel in a small and extremely comfortable tour bus and had a wonderful 4-hr. tour with Terry. He is from Seattle and knows the City and surrounding areas extremely well. He is a true professional and is available to answer any questions his guests may have. He also has a great sense of humor so we had a few chuckles during our time with him. We are so glad we chose Shutter Tours and we're very happy to recommend the tour to others.

Do this first and you'll enjoy Seattle a lot more!

Background: I lived in Seattle for a year, somewhat against my will. I stayed in hotels the whole time and high-tailed it back to SF as soon as I could. Meanwhile, while in Seattle, I discovered this neighborhood or that, saw a few sights, but never got a real pulse of the place.

I was up for a couple of days and on a recommendation took a Shutter tour with Terry (driver). Wow! I should have done this the first day I was in town. I learned so many interesting things about the area, was able to figure out the layout of the city, and generally had a great day exploring. Terry is very patient and easygoing while being professional and packing his tour with info. He's great with questions both on and off the bus.

The whole experience was comfortable, interesting, and WELL worth the reasonable price.

Fantastic Seattle Tour!

Wow! Terry showed our family Seattle in a unique way keeping 2 teenage boys entertained, answering endless questions and going well beyond any tour I have been on. Theos chocolate was a hit with heaps of free samples and the camera tips and inside info made this trip really special. Off the beaten track with lots of interesting information shared this was a highlight of our 6 week trip of the USA. Thanks Terry.

Five Stars Aren't Enough!!

Simply amazing. Perfect way to spend the day seeing and learning all about Seattle. Best guided tour we have taken anywhere period. Learned so much, werent rushed from site to site. Even got a beginners course in photography included. Cost of tour is easily worth double what we paid. Highly recommended!

Great Tour for Adults and Children

Our group of 10 (four children ages 8, 10, 12, 16 and 6 adults) took the Seattle and Snoqualmie Falls tour after our Alaska cruise. Terry, our guide, did such a wonderful job of pointing out something interesting that appealed to all ages at each stop. Everyone had a great time and learned a lot about this fascinating and beautiful part of our country. Several of us really appreciated his photography tips and help with our pictures along the way....We ended the tour at the Pike Place Market and Terry gave us some good ideas of what to see there as well as good places to eat. All in all we would heartily recommend this tour.

- Lynda via Tripadvisor.com

Outstanding Tour

This is more than a tour, it is an educational experience. Terry not only has a passion to share knowledge about the wonderful sites but he shares his professional tips for taking better pictures in a manner that connects with a seasoned or novice photographer. We used the ideas he taught us to improve our photos on the rest of our vacation stops as well. Terry is very conversational and encouraging with the feedback he gave on our photos. This was truly a highlight of our vacation, and we highly recommended Shutter Tours to everyone.

Snoqualmie Falls with Shutter Tours

We took a highlights tour of Seattle which included Snoqualmie Falls and other sites that we wanted to visit. Being without a car we were reliant on finding a tour that would take us to to where we wanted to go and Shutter Tours meet our requirements. Terry, our tour guide, was excellent, professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. I would recommend this tour to others visitors to Seattle

Superb Tour! Excellent Tour Guide!

This is a really great tour for the entire family! My 12 year old loved it. We were really pleased with the locations on the tour and the time allocated to each stop. The Tour Guide (also owner) really makes the tour interesting. He really knows Seattle and the surrounding area as well as the history behind it all. Nice man, Great voice, patient and really beautiful location stops! So Glad that we booked the tour and will definitely reccomend and book again.

Nothing but perfect for us! My husband and I were in Seattle for 3 days with my elderly mother in law using only public transportation. We did not take the tour for the photography but because of the itinerary for the Snoqualmie Falls tour. (go to their web site) Terry, the owner, was our guide and was super! He picked us up at our bed and breakfast and was so accommodating everywhere we went. He would drop us off at the closest spot and go park the van, and then would go get the van and pick us up.

He was so informative and answered so many questions we had. We did have a camera and we got some great pictures and still got some good photography tips as well. The whole day was at our pace and we were so comfortable. I had called a couple days in advance to see if we were the only ones scheduled for our tour day. Since we were, we asked if we could change the itinerary a slight bit, so we could eat at a restaurant we had read about that was near a place we were going on the tour. It was arranged to meet our request that very day. Our route took us by so many places and then every place we actually went to, was great. We each had a favorite.

At the end of our tour we asked to be left at Pike Place Market so we could spend some time there and then we wanted to have dinner in that area before returning to our B & B. Terry dropped us off and we said our good byes. About 10 minutes later, Terry shows up. He found us in that busy market to return our camcorder bag we had left in the van. What a sweet guy! I would recommend this tour to anyone I know that is going to Seattle.

- Gering, Nebraska via Tripadvisor.com

A fabulous day. Highly recommended. You must go.

My husband, 20 y/o son and myself went on this tour yesterday. The season was not to start until today but when I requested a tour before the season started as we would not be in Seattle Terry accommodated our request and scheduled an earlier start to their season. We were visiting from Australia so our time was limited.

This tour should be the number one tour for Seattle. We did the Seattle Bites tour (currently number 1) and loved it...but this one is a definite DO NOT MISS! Terry (our guide) and Tracey (driver) were wonderful. This tour is not your normal sightseeing tour as their speciality is giving tuition and suggestions on photography as well. We only had 'point and shoot' cameras although other people on the tour had more 'advanced' cameras. Don't be put off if you are not into photography either as you will still enjoy the day immensely.

We particularly liked visiting different locations around Seattle. If you are visiting Seattle then this tour will take you to some beautiful locations. The weather was wonderful and the lunch from produce from the Pike Markets was eaten al fresco and was delicious. The Shutter tours bus is small so the tour is quite intimate and friendly. This is wonderful value for money.

We learned some wonderful tips to improve our photography (shame we were not able to do this tour at the beginning of our one month trip instead of the end). It was a fantastic day and a holiday memory we will long remember. Thank you Terry and Tracey. You deserve to be 'Number 1'. We highly recommend your tour.

Took the Snoqualmie Falls trip with Shutter Tours while on my visit to Seattle as I always enjoy seeing outside the cities I visit. I booked this from home in Scotland and got a very welcoming email from Terry the owner which did not prepare me at all for the real thing! The real thing was wonderful!! The tour bus was driven by Tracy and the photographic side of things was handled by Chandler. A great team that made for a grand day out. A full commentary of all the sights visited was given and a superb lunch taken in the beautiful surroundings of a Japanese Garden. Photographic advice and the best viewpoints on top of the great company from the team produced lots of great photographs for me and the others on the tour. Although I was originally attracted to Shutter Tours because of their photographic interest, I found them providing a day of great enjoyment and ideal for anyone wanting to take home photographs that you would not get on other tours (you know the kind - 5 minutes stop to see something in a busy line then you're back on the bus with one average photograph if you're lucky) - also a nice way for a single traveller such as myself and, as it turned out, the others on the bus on this occasion to have an experience of a lifetime with such nice people. Can't recommend them too highly. Thanks a lot Shutter Tours.

Best way to see Skagit Tulip Festival

We hired Shutter Tours to take a bridal shower group of 9 on a private tour of the Skagit Tulip Festival on Saturday, April 21, 2012. We can't say enough positive things about the tour (and most of them have been said already from other reviewers!) I had done a little research ahead of time and read about awful stop and go traffic and long lines on the weekend... thanks to Terry, we avoided all of this (the tours get to bypass the lines and we left early enough in the morning to avoid the bad traffic.) Terry and Tracy were so accommodating of our needs...they picked us up at our home, let us stop for coffee and breakfast, made reservations for our group for lunch in La Conner, were very understanding and accommodating about having a newborn baby on the tour. And our pictures... Not only did we have a fantastic day touring the tulips, La Conner, Rosario Beach and Deception Pass - but we also took amazing photographs of the day - thanks to their tips. Terry told us how to take great pictures with point and shoots, ipads, iphones and of course real cameras (we had the whole gamut.) I would highly recommend using Sutter Tours for the Skagit Tulip Festival in April! Shutter Tours also does Seattle Walking Tours and Seattle Driving tour that I am sure are fantastic too.

- Susan B, Northern California via Tripadvisor.com

Best Tour To See The Tulips

I signed up for this tour to see the tulip fields and not have to drive. What I got out of this fabulous day was so much more! My fun day began immediately from the minute I stepped on the tour bus. I loved that Shutter Tours was able to pick me up downtown, that was a big plus. Terry, the owner, gave such wonderful tips and great advice throughout the day. The tour bus was very comfortable. Terry was a superb tour guide who is very personable and knowledgeable. It was a relaxing and beautiful day in the tulip fields. The change of scenery visiting Rosario Beach and Deception Pass was also a memorable experience. I would highly recommend Shutter Tours. It is the best tour company to see all the wonderful sights in my favorite city of Seattle!

- Deborah S, Seattle, WA via Tripadvisor.com

Fantastic Tour

This was a fantastic tour. Terry gave us great tip and lessons on taking quality pics. The tour was fun and I will use them again when I visit Seattle. Terry is very knowledgeable about photography and is a great teacher. Tracy drove the van and kept us on schedule. This is a very professional operation and I would highly recommend them. Shutter tours also provided a great lunch for us to enjoy.

- Tony S, Austin, TX via Tripadvisor.com

Much more than expected, amazing tour.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect but ended up being very impressed. I learned so much about taking great pictures from Jamie, he is a world of information. This tour let's you learn history of the city, little snips of interesting facts and Jamie answered all of our questions. Tracy had a wonderful lunch ready for us with flowers, fresh fruit and sandwiches all from Pikes street market. The day flew by, one of the favorites days of our vacation.

- Tbbsmr, Virginia Beach, VA via Tripadvisor.com

I can't believe how great my pictures turned out!

I did the 3 hour walking tour of Seattle beginning and ending at Pike Place Market. Jamie, our tour guide, was so helpful-beginning with getting me on the best settings on my camera. I took over 300 pictures. With tips on framing, rule of thirds, shooting from the heart--my pictures turned out great. In fact, I can't believe some of them are mine. I discovered some new photographic sites in Seattle, and new ways to take pictures. Shutter Tours is more than deserving of an excellent rating; I wish there was something higher!

- ex_NYCerSeattle, WA via Tripadvisor.com

The best walking tour you'll ever do

I took the tour as a tourist with an interest in photography and getting to see some of Seattle. There were six in our group - all with different ideas of what we wanted from the tour. Valentina, our guide, was fabulous. She catered for everyone's needs from complete amateur to professional travel photographers. Our route took in sites that even Seattleites who'd lived there for 20 years didn't know existed! Valentina encouraged a good rapport between us all so that interspersed with professional advice, there was a lot of laughter. We stopped for coffee three quarters of the way through the tour which enabled us all to talk about what we'd learned and get to know one another a bit. I couldn't recommend it more highly. In fact, I may just do another on my next trip :)

Absolutely LOVED the Shutter Tours experience!

I just had an amazing experience all over Seattle with Shutter Tours. Being an avid, amateur, sports photographer, I have always wanted to learn more about portrait, abstract and scenic photography. I learned that and so much more with this tour company. The variety of locations and time frame was excellent. The entire day flowed beautifully with each spot offering a unique perspective. My favorite spot was the Japanese Gardens and the level of instruction was first class. Our guide, Scott, was so approachable and knowledgable, he made me feel as though my questions were important and was so complete in his responses. The lunch we had at Snoqualmie Falls was first class and lovely. The van ride was smooth and extremely comfortable, with just the right amount of time between locations for rest and questions. This is a unique and wonderful way to explore some of the most beautiful places in the Seattle area, while obtaining competent instruction in taking some extraordinary photos.

- Jeny H., Stanwood, WA via Tripadvisor.com

Worth every dollar for priceless photos

I learned so much and got many great tips on how to use my camera and take great photos. There were only two of us so we got personalized tips. The time just flew by. Seattle weather is not predictable so wear layers you can add or remove. It's hard to take pictures when you are shivering! Highly recommend this tour!

- WTL, CA via Tripadvisor.com

You have very good people working for you..

I just returned home from my trip to Seattle and Alaska. Just wanted to let you know that my son and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour to Snoqualmie (7/15) and the walking tour in Seattle (7/16). I really appreciated the help from Scott and Valentina in teaching me how to take better shots.... I am relatively new at using DSLRs and my camera was giving me some problems. You have very good people working for you which, as you know, is the key to any successful business. You must be a good boss as they seem to be very happy at their jobs.

- Stephen S., Honolulu, HI

Must Do for Beginners through Advanced Hobbyists

While I learned how to use the advanced skills of a new DSLR, my boyfriend learned a lot about his little digital camera. Our guide was fabulous, knowledgeable, kept it moving at a good pace and was funny. She gave us one-on-one time as well as the group of 4 participants. We learned a lot, have great photos, and would recommend it to anyone. We also saw parts of Seattle that we didn't know about and we live here!

- RG, Bellevue, WA via Tripadvisor.com

You have a very knowledgeable employee who gave us a wealth of information on both your lovely city and tips and tricks for using our camera.

We have taken other classes on photography, but Scott trumps all of classes in the past. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to take better photos. We look at everything with a different eye now. Great tour!!!

- Clinton P. Eugene, Oregon

One small step for mankind...

Since my wife and I are landscape photographers, our photographic concerns are lighting. Our tour guide, Scott, filled a void in our shooting format that was long overdue. The 3 hour training he took us through was priceless and has added a new dimension to our repertoire of photos. My wife and I loved the concept of merging the tour with our love for photography. What a natural, and yet this is the first type of tour we have ever taken. We will take away from this journey a better view of Seattle's history and a deeper understanding of making images.

- Clinton - Bend, OR via Tripadvisor.com

Hi Terry I would like to thank you so much for your tour!

I was lucky enough to be the only one on the tour yesterday with Valentina. I cannot tell you how much I learned and how patient, creative, and informative she was. I learned more in the three hours with her than I had in over a year of reading “how to” books. Not only was she a complete professional, I had a GREAT time! Valentina has such a wonderful personality, and is so outgoing, I felt comfortable with her from the moment I met her. Not once was I intimidated or afraid to ask questions, and this made the tour with her that much more valuable. Again, thank you!

- Tammie Bachmeier

I just want to tell you how much we enjoyed our Shutter Tour with Kristi yesterday.

We got lucky and there were just two of us and Kristi. I learned a lot and had a perfect day... I will tell others about this tour and wish you continued success!!

- Diane D.

Absolutely loved the "Shutter Tour" experience! Here is what I thought was extraordinarily strong . . .

Your staff! Excellent picks - - they were informative and made everyone feel welcome and at ease! And inspired us to take pictures from the "mundane to the unusual." Your format! It meets all levels and aptitudes of photographers! I did not feel uncomfortable at all. How you explain composition is succinct and very powerful! The examples make it very clear. Why couldn't art school been that clear? LOL!

- Jennifer, Washington

The tour was wonderful. It met and far exceeded my expectations

I learned many important principles to improve my photography. Even though I was the only person to sign up for last Friday, I really appreciate you running the tour for me. I would absolutely recommend you to anyone and everyone interested in photography. Thank you again. And please tell Scott thank you and that I had a really great time.

- Hillary, Salt Lake City, Utah

The tour was excellent! Kristi is a wonderful guide; very knowledgable, fun, flexible, welcoming and inspiring.

I haven't had time to talk with Alyson and Kristina about their experience, but I had a total blast! As a novice photographer is was great to just get out and shoot; no time for judgement because we were moving from interesting subject to interesting subject. Kristi was very helpful on my crash course for camera use. As a local, I still learned some fun Seattle facts, and it was great to get another perspective on the Market. Kristi may have mentioned that we took time down at the John T Williams totem pole too, which was a lovely, organic detour to the usual Tour.

- Nicole, Seattle

Kristi could not have been a better guide.

You are very fortunate to have someone who can relate to people as well as she does. She made the tour very entertaining, informative and fun. Thank you and your group for a wonderful experience.

- Howard, Virginia Beach, VA

I just wanted to mention how much fun I had on my tour. Terry was a great guide. Even having lived in the area for a while now, I really enjoyed the bits of information about Seattle that he was able to provide. I loved that my tour turned out to be just for me and only one other very nice person, so the attention we got was great. Within the first hour I was looking at everything around me from a different perspective. The three hours flew by and I was amazed to find that I'd taken more than 200 pictures! I'm about to take a trip to SE Asia and feel that the tips on composition will be very useful. I completely recommend Shutter Tours for anyone, and will certainly tell others I know. Thanks again!.

- Kate, Washington

....Terry, we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon with you. An absolutely wonderful way to see Seattle. Your knowledge of Seattle combined with the teaching and the examples that you gave made our day so memorable. What a great way to learn photography! You will definitely see us again on one of tours.

- James, Washington

....Cannot stress enough how fabulous a photography tour with Shuttertours is - HIGHLY recommends it to anyone who likes to point a camera - and just fell in love with Seattle all over again today.

- Maria, Washington

Hello Valentina...

Liz and I soaked up so many valuable tips from you during our last Tuesday's Shutter Tour. It was the best way to begin our week's visit to Seattle. We were able to take in so many interesting activities and to see them with new eyes. Wednesday morning we spent time at SAM and dropped in on a photographic installation by Imogen Cunningham: http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/Exhibit/exhibitDetail.asp?eventID=16647 Oh, my goodness, there were your lessons spelled out for us in her photographs. We ran from one photo to another, calling out which technique she demonstrated. It was as if you said... "now, go and see examples of an artist at work." Both of us spent our week shooting pictures, discussing angles and lighting. I'll send you some of mine, and perhaps Liz will send you some of hers. Again, many thanks to you and Shutter Tours.

- Marcia, Kansas

Hi Terry, I just wanted tell you more about the amazing Shutters Tour given by Kristi on Memorial Day 2009. Kristi was so friendly and knowledgeable. She shares a great attitude and love for the city of Seattle and photography which is contagious for everyone involved. The 3 hour tour was truly amazing. It made me forget about everything going on in my busy life and it truly forced me to open my eyes and take in all the beauty of this city I call home. I now feel rejuvenated and have a fresh perspective on life, photography and forgotten treasures of Seattle. It is truly about the simple things. I'm looking forward to going on the tour again soon. Thanks!

- Christine, Washington

Our vacation was complete after our photo walking tour. Seattle is a beautiful city and it was nice to see it through the knowledgeable eyes of an experienced photographer. I learned about framing a picture and the rule of thirds. Thank you Valentina

We spent almost three hours touring downtown Seattle on what was supposed to be a group tour but ended up being a private one! Shutter Tours is a great concept with a twist on the traditional guided tour. Not only did I learn some interesting facts about Seattle, but as we walked around I also learned the ins and outs of taking great travel photos. Here are some of my favorite shots of the day, I will let the pictures do the talking for this entry!

What a blast! I am looking forward to exploring my neighborhood as well as other destinations and using the techniques I learned from this experience!

I enjoyed learning some history of the city. It was a beautiful, sunny day, the sights were spectacular and "The Bluest Skies you have ever seen are in Seattle"! I would definitely recommend this tour if you want to take better pictures and want a personable tour.

A true "walkabout" with an opportunity to learn and create reflective photos of Seattle's backstreets and historic landmarks. This was an inspiring tour with the guidance of an artist's eye and an enthusiastic professional.

Terry, thank you again for the great tour yesterday. Kristi is a gem. We all learned so much and had a great time doing it. Once we get all the pictures together we will share the best with you."

I'd recommend this for all levels and interests, whether you are an aspiring photographer, a casual tourist, or anything in between. Thanks!

What a perfect afternoon! I can tell your tour is going to be a huge success here in Seattle. This is something that every visitor should try while they’re here – their “vacation photos” will be the envy of all friends and family. I also really look forward to taking some of the tips I learned from the two of you and going back out on my own over the course of the summer. I think you provided the perfect amount of photo lingo & tricks, Seattle tid-bits, and fun!"

- Kim, Washington

I would highly recommend shuttertours to anyone visiting Seattle who wants both a bit of history and a ton of help with a camera. I received so many pointers, and Valentina was a doll. Extremely patient and genuinely caring. Bravo..
