Our Staff

Welcome to Shutter Tours, we are happy that you have taken a step to find out about who we are and what we do. As you can see by the bios below, we all love photography and as a company we have taken a step to create something that is very unique in the world of travel and photography.
Part of the challenge of creating such a unique service, is we only have one opportunity to service the traveler, so we have worked very hard to get it right for the customer. Our testimonials page shares what others think of our service and we thought we would share a little bit about who we are.
Thank you for considering our company and giving us the opportunity to give back to the travel community. And whether you visit Seattle or not, we're hoping you'll discover all that is positive and create your own wonderful stories to tell.

Photography has been my passion for as long as I can remember. As a young girl I loved thumbing through our family photo albums, enthralled by the history and the unknown in each scene. These were real people having real experiences and I got to use my imagination to fill in the blanks. What great stories I conjured up!
While completing my Bachelor of Science Degree at Washington State University I attended a study abroad program that took me to 11 countries across 4 continents. This experience rocketed my desire to learn about photojournalism to a new dimension. It also took me on several more travel adventures to more than 20 additional countries.
After exploring a few careers, my passion for visual story telling finally took me to the Brooks Institute of Photography where I graduated at the top of my class with a degree in Photojournalism and embarked on the career of my dreams.
Today my husband, Joseph, and I own a thriving wedding and portrait studio located in West Seattle where we have the privilege to tell stories with our cameras and help you preserve your history.

¡Hola, soy Valentina! I am a travel, documentary and lifestyle photographer, a writer, a fan of airplanes and mass transportation and a daydreamer.
I love school. I like it so much I collect degrees! I have an MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design. Previously, I got an MS in Integrated Marketing Communications, a Law Degree and did Literature studies. I first studied photography at Roberto Mata Taller de Fotografía in Caracas, Venezuela, where I'm originally from.
I have traveled thoroughly as a photographer. I have documentary work from Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Costa Rica, Venezuela and the US. I have shown my work in several cities in the United States and in Caracas.
It's no secret that my two favorite places in the world are my hometown Caracas and my hometown Seattle (yes, they're both home to me!) Is at the "Emerald City" where I currently live with my lovely husband Ryan...surrounded by delicious warm coffee, chocolate, water and the most beautiful scenery in the whole-wide-world!
I'm bilingual and...¡también hago los tours en Español!
¡Bienvenidos a Seattle! Welcome to Seattle!

Ever since I was fifteen and discovered the magic of the dark room, I have been an avid photographer and helplessly addicted to looking at the world through a viewfinder.
Having the opportunity to travel to many beautiful places throughout the world, I learned to love the culture and people of the city or country I was in. Seattle is my hometown and for the past fifteen years I have walked through the city with a camera in hand. I am always amazed by what the city had to offer us Photographers and I saw a need to combine a love of photography with travel, thus Shutter Tours was born.
My personal photography has taken me into a number of directions including Photo District News Magazine as a winner in the Pro Division of PDN's World in Focus Travel Contest in 2008. Grand Prize winner in 2009 Wells Fargo/Wachovia photo contest.
I have also been recognized internationally as a swimwear photographer with two Mexican magazine covers in 2007 and 2008 and a featured photographer on Myfox networks, 1 hour "Bikini Jam" special with Ujena Swimwear and Bennett Productions.
I currently reside in the Belltown area of Seattle, just a few blocks from the Pike Place market.
